How to remove a Host from the Foglight Management Server (4258541)

This article explains how to remove a host from the Foglight Management Server (FMS) when it has been decommissioned or no longer requires monitoring.

The host is no longer in use or being monitored, and associated data is no longer needed.

For Database agents (e.g. SQL Server, Oracle, DB2, Azure SQL)

Follow the steps in KB 4295623. to properly remove database agents and associated hosts.

For Infrastructure agents (HostAgent, WindowsAgent, UnixAgentPlus, etc.) 

1. Delete the Agent
   • Go to Administration | Agents | Agent Status
   • Locate and select the agent associated with the host
   • Click Delete
2. Remove the Host from Topology
   • Go to Administration | Management Server | Servers | Object Cleanup
   • In the left panel, select Host
   • Search for the host name
   • Select it and click Delete

If the Object Cleanup interface is not visible, click Object Management in the bottom-right corner to switch views.

Deleting Objects:

When you delete an object, it is immediately removed from the topology tree, including all child objects. If a live agent still reports data, the object may be re-created automatically.

Purging Objects:

If you prefer the object to be removed during the nightly cleanup cycle, use the Purge feature instead. The object should disappear from the topology within 24 hours.
